Miles College presents the First Black Male Summit
The First Annual Young Black Male Summit was held at Miles College, March 10, 2010, from 9:00a.m.-2:00p.m. This event was sponsored by Miles College W.A. Henderson Leadership Program in cooperation with community leaders and corporate sponsors of Bessemer, Fairfield, and Birmingham, Alabama. The vision of this event came into fruition by one of our own, Mayor Edward May. Twenty-three young men were chosen from Davis Middle School to attend this summit. The purpose of this event was to guide and heighten the awareness of young black males to the importance of staying in school and persisting to the point of graduation, the necessity of developing positive decision making skills and critical thinking skills that will prevent drug use and incarceration and finally, the critical value of character development as a pillar for an ethical and moral life style.
